Just to complete this question. As worked out in the comments. It looks like Azure's router drops connections that have been idle for 5 mins. I can only speculate one one aspect of the question: Most IoT communication is now over WiFi or cellular instead of BLE or Zigbee so MQTT-SN isn't necessary. Well, not sure about the birth message and LWT (Last Will and Testament) is optional as per the spec. So, you wouldn't necessarily receive messages unless you had your broker customised to such requirements.
